Risch Plummets in Recent Polling - Large "Undecided’s" in Lieutenant Governor Race
A recent SurveyUSA polls shows a precipitous drop in favorability for Jim Risch in just a few months time. The poll below shows he has dropped into a danger zone for an incumbent and could be heading farther south.
Importantly, Jim Risch has lost the backing of "independents" in Idaho and this voting bloc can sway an election very quickly. Larry won re-election by 50,000 votes in 1992 when the "independents" made the shift to the democratic side of the ballot. The SuveyUSA poll coincides exactly with the reaction Larry has been receiving in his "handshake poll" across Idaho. Larry has now shaken almost 18,000 hands in all 44 Idaho counties. He sensed a huge momentum shift at the very time the SurveyUSA poll was taken. Based on Larry's one-on-one encounters with voters, he has sensed Risch's negatives are fueled by the special session and Risch's refusal to participate in a statewide televised debate. Also, the LaRocco for Idaho campaign has conducted two tracking polls in the past two weeks and found that approximately 40% of likely voters across the state are "undecided" at this point. This simply means that race for Lieutenant Governor is wide open. The large number of "undecideds" is clearly bad news for anyone running for office in 2006 as an incumbent. I will continue to keep you posted. For now, the campaign continues to execute on our strategies for the final month of the campaign. This race is totally winnable and many new contributors and former contributors are coming forward every day to help fuel the last month of this exciting campaign.
